Stone Cold Steve Austin…That’s it! This voice I heard sounded just like him. Even more unbelievable was when I saw him, he looked just like him too.
I went browsing in a furniture store and met this huge muscle bound guy who had the most gentle demeanor. He mentioned he and his wife owned the store and that she usually runs things (her vision/baby), but he comes in occasionally so that she can have a well deserved break. Somehow I ended up in this store for two hours chatting with this man about the goodness of the Lord and exchanging stories of God’s amazing grace.
He spoke with high regard about his family, especially his wife. He shared…”One evening at dinner when my son was 6 years old he disrespectfully smarted off to his mother. Before he could blink, he went from the table, to being backed up to the refrigerator with my index finger firmly against his chest;…. ‘If you ever speak to your mother like that again….
(the next line from his mouth is what stuck with me from that moment on…)
….Matter of fact, FORGET that she’s ‘your’ mother, if you ever speak to ‘MY’ WIFE out of line that way it will be the last time.’ My boy is 15 years old now and he makes mistakes, but that mistake he has yet to make again.”
10. A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
Now this is what I call a man who recognizes a woman’s worth…or shall I say “his” woman’s worth!
I’d just met the man, but his ACTIONS (tending to his wife’s store) and WORDS aligned and were quite clear. He truly honors his wife, recognized her Proverbs 31 characteristics and has that same expectation for his child; this was not because she’s his MOTHER, but because she is his father’s WIFE. Pretty Awesome if you ask me!!!
I began to reflect on how I honor and express my love to those dear to me. It’s not enough just to say three words. My encounter with Stone Cold’s twin reminded me that love is an action.
1 John 3:18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
Do you recognize the worth of your loved ones? How have you shown that you love them lately?
